The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) granted a petition to suspend so-called “gross metering” for medium and large electricity users, citing excessive costs to all ratepayers. “Gross metering” was adopted by the PUC roughly two years ago to replace net metering. Gross metering requires the installation of both extra and expensive metering equipment. These meters were developed to charge solar customers a new tax or fee on the power they produce and consume right in their home or business.
